  • M.Sc in Energy Engineering

  • In the Energy Technology master’s program, you will learn about the natural and engineering sciences and concepts of energy conversion, storage and distribution. This leads you to a well-founded specialist knowledge in the fields of energy conversion and application. They deal with the potentials and profitability of various energy sources (fossil fuels, nuclear energy, solar energy, wind energy, hydropower and biomass) and their integration into the energy system.

    After your studies, you will be able to analyze and evaluate plant and usage concepts for renewable and conventional energy technology from an energetic and economic point of view, and plan and carry out analytical and model studies.

  • It is beneficial if you have the following interests and skills: 

  • Successful use of scientific, mathematical and engineering methods for the abstraction, formulation and solution of complex tasks in research and development in industry or in research institutions, to be able to critically question them and to develop them further if necessary
  • To develop concepts and solutions to basic, sometimes unconventional questions with broad involvement of other disciplines
  • Use engineering judgment to develop new and original products and processes
  • To be able to plan and carry out analytical, model-like and experimental investigations, to be able to critically evaluate data and draw the necessary conclusions from them
  • With the study of energy technology, you will acquire depth and breadth in order to familiarize yourself with future technologies in your own specialist area as well as in peripheral areas in order to be able to examine and evaluate newly emerging technologies
  • The two specialization subjects to be chosen represent two main areas of study. A specialization subject is to be selected from group 1. The second specialization subject can be chosen from group 1 or 2.

  • Group 2: Specialization subject with a cross-sectional character

  • Electrical machines and drives (Parspour, IEW)
  • Energy and Environment (Friedrich, IER)
  • Energy storage (Spindler, ITW / Thess, DLR)
  • Energy distribution (Lens, IFK)
  • Energy systems and energy industry (Hufendiek, IER)
  • Strength of Materials and Materials Technology (Weihe, IMWF)
  • Methods of modeling and simulation (Resch, IHR)
  • Thermal fluid dynamics (Kronenburg, ITV, Laurien, IKE)
  • You will find your workplace in globally active companies, medium-sized companies or in engineering offices. You will also take on interesting tasks in the consulting industry, in the public sector, in the field of plant approval and monitoring as well as in development aid organizations.
