Methods of preparation for GRE exam

When you start the actual preparations for the test, you need to decide whether to self-study from books and guides, a GRE  preparation course with direct interaction within the coaching centers, and online GRE preparation course, or private coaching. You have to decide the method for GRE preparation by keeping in mind factors like the time that you have to prepare and also your target schools.

Effective GRE Preparation Strategies

  • Read a lot of analytical non-fiction

Spending time on GRE preparation will be too much of a routine if you don’t engage with supplementary analytical non-fiction in your spare time. Reading the subjects which are not interesting during leisure time may not be your favorite, but the effort will pay off.

  • Stick to a regular GRE study plan

It’s important to allow your study plan to develop over time. You’ll need to make changes according to how much you score in the GRE practice tests.  if you’re frequently scoring well on certain sections then concentrate more on the sections in which you are weak.

  • Take practice tests

The advantage of taking a practice test is that you will become well known for the exam structure and timing, which will benefit you on the exam day. You will be well prepared in managing time for the questions.

  • Know your weaknesses

Knowing your weaknesses and how you can chip away at them will allow you to build a balanced pace of study. Do whatever it takes to structure your study plan so that you can focus more effectively on the areas in which you are not strong enough.

  • Chart your progress

Charting your progress is essential because it will provide an overview of your score improvements and will objectively evaluate the effectiveness of your study strategies.

  •  Trust your gut instinct

As long as you are well prepared for GRE and are executing sound test-taking strategies, it is fine to trust your instinct and choose the option. Everyone does a great deal of processing in the subconscious mind, and your gut feeling can help you solve a problem when your conscious mind is unsteady.

Remember there is no negative marking for incorrect answers, and guessing the answer to a question is a good option than not attempting.

The GRE tests not only test your verbal and quantitative ability, but also the state of your mind and body. The total concentration on the GRE preparation should not take your attention away from a proper daily routine which includes exercise, a healthy diet, and mainly, adequate sleep.

Students appearing for the GRE exam should also learn to be calm during the GRE -preparation period, in fact, they should keep continuing their hobby or pastime. Most importantly, you should try to maintain a positive and motivated attitude.
