As the Canada Visa Biometrics process enters the second phase, more and more immigration applicants will have to submit their biometrics to the Canadian Government. Canada Visa Biometrics include the submission of fingerprints and photograph of the applicant.

In phase one, the applicants from Europe, Middle East and Africa had to submit the biometrics for the student visa, visitors visa, express entry Visa and permanent residency from July 31, 2018. From 31st December, 2018, student from Asia, Asia Pacific, North and South America will also have to submit the biometrics for the Canada Visa process.

What is Biometric Visa Process?

If you are willing to get a Canada student Visa for study, express entry, visitors visa or Canada Visa for permanent Residency, you must have heard of the biometrics required for the Canada Visa. It is a process where applicants will have to submit the fingerprints and a passport photo to the Canadian Immigration as a part of their Canada Visa process. The Biometrics visa process is done in person, and the candidate has to get it done himself/herself.

Candidates outside Canada will have to submit the biometrics for Canada Visa. To cut down on time, and make the visa process faster, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) suggests the applicants to submit their biometrics at the same time they apply for Visa at VAC (Visa Application Centre). Also, if the Visa application is submitted online, it will take less amount of time.

Biometric Instruction Letter and Fees:

If you apply online, you have an option to pay for the biometrics along with the Visa Application Fees. Once your application is submitted, you will receive the Biometric Instruction Letter, which you will have to provide at the time of submitting your biometrics.

The Fees for biometrics are 85 CAD (4538 INR Approx.) for individuals, for the families applying at the same time, it is CAD 170 (9015 INR Approx)

Waiting Time after Biometric Canada

You don’t have to wait to give the biometrics once you have received the Appointment letter for the biometrics, you should submit your biometrics. Time taken by you to submit the biometrics is not considered in the Canada Visa Processing Time.

Actually, once you submit the biometrics, then the application starts to process. Therefore it is advisable to submit your biometrics as soon as you get the instruction letter. Once you receive the letter, you have 30 days to submit the biometrics for Canada Visa.

The Processing time for Student Visa in Canada is three to four weeks. As we have said, the other types of Visa do not include the biometrics in the processing time. If you are applying for a PR in Canada, the biometrics is included in processing time.

How will Canada Visa Biometrics affect Indian students?

There are some concerns regarding the Canada Visa Biometrics for India and Asian countries as whole. Since the biometrics are needed to be submitted in person, students might have to travel long distances to VAC. Universities in Canada have shown concerns that this might affect the students in India and China to opt for another study abroad options.

Since most of the VAC are located in major cities, students living in small towns and rural areas will have a hard time to submit their Canada Visa Biometrics. Canadian Immigration on the other hand, is planning to counter the change by expanding the VAC network. IRCC is planning to have 147 Visa Application Centers in 105 countries by the end of the year to make the process smoother for the students all around the world.
