The Master’s degree in Physics at the University of Bayreuth encourages early participation in research. It imparts a wide range of qualifications and competencies, in particular in-depth scientific specialist knowledge at an international level, the ability to work independently and other key qualifications such as project management, teamwork and clear presentation of complex issues.
A successful physics degree with a high scientific standard needs freedom for creativity. The Bayreuth Master’s degree in Physics therefore offers students a wide range of options when choosing their focus areas, e.g. specializing in the areas of biological physics, solid state physics, nonlinear dynamics, physics of soft matter, or physics of molecular systems. Own initiatives are also specifically promoted. Accompanied and advised by experienced lecturers, the students can choose thematic focal points in such a way that a demanding individual course of study develops, including stays abroad. Short distances on campus encourage collaboration with young scientists and professors in excellently equipped laboratories.
From the 2016/17 winter semester, the University of Bayreuth will be offering the new interdisciplinary elite degree program Biological Physics as part of the Bavarian Elite Network , which can be taken alongside the master’s degree courses in "Physics" and "Biochemistry and Molecular Biology". The program offers particularly interested students of physics, biochemistry and biology joint, interdisciplinary and research-oriented additional training in the border area between physics and biology.
By researching complex scientific relationships, the students in the master’s program acquire skills that are already in great demand in science, development, technology, business and administration. Physics is increasingly seen as an indispensable innovation factor in a wide range of professional fields. The demand for physics graduates is forecast to increase by 50 percent over the next 15 years. A degree program that focuses on current research topics is therefore an excellent starting point for starting a career.
Successful graduates can do a doctorate and, for example, participate in a structured doctoral program at the Graduate School for Mathematics and Natural Sciences (BayNat). There is the option of fast-track access to the doctoral program.
