  • Automotive and Mechatronics, Master of Science (M.Sc.)

Engineers around the world are responding to people's need for individual mobility, combined with comfort and energy efficiency, with new technological developments. In the 21st century, too, companies in the automotive industry and its supplier sectors as well as the research institutions active in these areas are driving innovations forward - for example in energy concepts, driving safety or driving comfort. The Bayreuth master's degree in “Automotive and Mechatronics” provides students with specialized engineering skills that are geared towards basic and application research in this technology-intensive branch of the economy. The focus is on materials, processes, components and systems of the automotive industry and related branches of industry (machine tools, robotics,

    Engineers of the future

In personal contact with their lecturers and in small teams, the students are introduced to current engineering issues and familiarized with future-oriented solutions. The students experience new interdisciplinary perspectives in research and development. At the same time, they acquire interdisciplinary skills, for example in the combination of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. The integration of teaching content on non-specialist competencies with particular importance for research and development (such as research discussions, project work in teams and presentation and lecture techniques) rounds off the training and enables students to work independently on engineering projects.

    Professional perspective

Due to their well-founded and at the same time application-oriented training, the graduates are excellently qualified for demanding engineering activities at car manufacturers, suppliers and related industries such as general mechanical engineering or automation technology, but of course also in research institutions. Typical areas of application are basic research, preliminary research in industry, product or process development, production control and development-related sales. It is possible to advance to interesting management positions (project management, group management, department management, etc.).

    Research-oriented and networked

“Automotive and Mechatronics” is one of several master's programs at the Faculty of Engineering. The training of the students is closely related to the main research areas of engineering, namely “Automotive and Mechatronics”, “New Materials” and “Energy and Environmental Technology”. The Bayreuth Engine Research Center (BERC) of the engineering sciences networks engine know-how from fuel generation to sensor technology.
