Program Overview
The goal of the Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program is to provide students with the greater breadth and depth of accounting and business knowledge needed to pursue a career as a professional accountant in public practice, industry,or non-profit organizations. In addition, the program is designed to provide students possessing an undergraduate degree in accounting with the additional hours needed to apply for and take the CPA exam.
The MAcc program at Purdue University Northwest consists of 30 credit hours. In order not to interfere with your regular and professional activities, classes are offered during the week, Monday to Thursday, from 6:30 to 9:20 pm. Courses are 16 weeks in length and the entire program can be completed in one year.
1. With an Accounting Degree
Individuals holding an undergraduate degree in accounting are required to complete thirty (30) semester hours of course work. Students must complete 21 hours of required credits and 9 hours of elective credits.

2. Without an Accounting Degree
Individuals holding an undergraduate degree in an area other than accounting are required to complete a number of “leveling courses” designed to prepare students for the advanced course work of the program. Leveling courses could include as many as seven (7) courses totaling twenty-one (21) hours. Students may some of the leveling and graduate courses simultaneously, but should consult with an advisor prior to registration.
These courses will not be included as part of the 30 hours of graduate credit required on a plan of study for the Master of Accountancy degree.
