  • The Geographie / Geography bachelor's program comprises a broad, specialized spectrum of physical geography, as well as human geography, and an intensive methodological component.  The core mission of the program includes the imparting of knowledge of spatial structures, spatial process patterns and the behavior of people in space. The “Geographie/Geography” bachelor's program is fundamentally application/profession-oriented, but is also intended to lay a broad, disciplinary basis for subsequent master's program studies.

    Major topics

    In the area of in-depth modules, you can choose between the subjects of Human Geography (social science oriented) and Physical Geography (natural science oriented).
    Furthermore, the external minor subject and profile modules serve for individual specialization through the acquisition of knowledge, skills and key qualifications from other natural, social and economic science bachelor's/master's programs, which results in a useful addition to the chosen human geographical or physical geographical in-depth subject.

    Objectives

    Successful graduates of the Geographie / Geography bachelor's program are able to enter a variety of professional fields or to take up a master's program.

    A variety of professional fields are available to you, depending on how you have designed your program, though the choice of various seminars, major topics with regard to content and methodology, the internship and elective modules.

    As a result of their well-founded and broad, fundamental education, geographers generally have great potential for work in the following fields:

    urban, regional and community planning; economic and innovation promotion; organization of knowledge and technology transfers; trade associations, chambers; real estate, housing industry; consulting (esp. foreign-related); environmental planning (water, soil, air, biosphere); landscape design, conservation, environmental protection; development cooperation; all types of space-related IT work (in connection with geoinformatics); tourism industry; university - research/third party fund projects; expert/engineering bureaus with various tasks.

    The Geography program in Marburg additionally teaches a variety of soft skills (such as through writing papers, the presenting of reports, working with PowerPoint, teamwork in small project groups). Additional skills that are required in the working world are trained as a result. This enables working in other professional fields unrelated to the discipline.
