  • WRITING FOR FILM & TV

  • The writing program is designed to replicate the process and environment of the film and television industry. Our faculty of renowned writers, with credits such as Mr. D, Frontier, Inspector Gadget and Sneaky Pete, add insight and credibility to the industry-like environment. Classes are styled after industry writing rooms and feature table-reads, on-set show-running and industry-standard editing software. You will learn how to pitch, write, produce and edit for all formats of film and television, and have the unique opportunity to bring your original scripts to life as film and television productions.

    Maximize your potential in the Film & TV Writing industry with a Bachelor of Creative Arts degree fromYorkville University--a unique degree completion program that requires prior completion of an acceptable post-secondary diploma in the creative arts. Our articulation agreement with Yorkville University lets you complete your Bachelor of Creative Arts degree in as few as 15 months while working, and helps you develop advanced leadership skills needed to manage productions, acquire financing, and market film and TV properties.

The classroom acts as an industry-style writing room where students review and critique each other’s work, from pitches to beat sheets, outlines and drafts. Application Process


  • To become a student at Toronto Film School:

  • Submit your online application form.
  • Pay your application fee*: $100 for all programs, except for Film Production ($500).
  • You must have an Ontario secondary school diploma (grade 12) or its equivalent.
  • You may be asked to take a mature student test, if you are over 18 and not enrolling directly from secondary school
  • You must meet admission requirements for your program of choice
  • If you need more information about applying to a program you can call us at 1-866-838-6542, message us on Facebook, or visit us in person. Or just simply fill out a request information form and an Admissions Advisor will contact you within 3 business days.

    *Students can cancel a contract within two days of signing it if they deliver a written notice of cancellation to Toronto Film School at the address shown on the contract; otherwise the application fees are non-refundable. See Refund Policy here.

  • We want to read your work! Submit a portfolio of at least two creative writing pieces, including any of the following:

  • Short stories (no more than two pages)
  • Opinion articles (no more than two pages)
  • Although it isn’t required, we encourage you to submit more than two portfolio samples or to supplement your portfolio with any other relevant writing samples. Please note, submitted material will not be returned.

  • Journal entries (no more than two pages)
  • Short film/sketch scripts (no more than five pages)
