Formal teaching for this course will be delivered at Parkgate Road in Chester from April 2021. The university will still own the Thornton site which will be used for research purposes. The close links that currently exist between the University and the companies based at Thornton will continue.
Physics is the fundamental science that underpins much of the technology we see around us. Modern communications, transport and energy systems all originate from advances in our understanding of physics. Our Physics course includes a wide range of research-informed modules, from optics and thermodynamics to quantum mechanics, microscopy and nuclear physics. Our modules combine theory, modelling, and hands-on inquiry-based laboratory sessions using modern equipment. The course is taught at Thornton Science Park, where you will be given the opportunity to work alongside our industrial partners via a wide range of summer placements, internships or an optional year to complete an industrial placement between the second and third year of study.
