In your first year, you’ll develop the core skills to succeed on your History degree - like how to investigate sources, or effectively presenting your arguments.

In your second year, you’ll begin to explore more specialist topics. You might examine divorce and bigamy throughout British history, or study how thinkers like Charles Darwin have influenced our culture. You’ll also be able to undertake an optional work placement. 

As you study, you’ll also be able to focus on one or more of seven areas: 

  • Early Modern History
  • History of America
  • History of Crime
  • History of Ideas
  • History of Medicine
  • Modern Political History
  • Social and Cultural History

In your third year, you’ll be able to focus on areas that you care about most. You might explore city life in Renaissance Italy, or examine the downfall of the Russian monarchy. Or you could investigate piracy and smuggling in Britain’s history.
