  • Human Rights and Human Diversity (BA)

  • Human Rights and Human Diversity prepares graduates to understand and advance issues of human rights and social justice in Canada and around the world in such roles as administrators, human resources professionals, lawyers, social workers, international development workers, fundraisers, project managers, and program coordinators.

    Some graduates go straight into the workforce, joining nongovernmental organizations, government, international organizations, universities, and the private sector; others pursue advanced studies in law, social work, MAs and PhDs.

  • Human Rights and Human Diversity (HRHD) prepares you for a career where you can make a difference by advancing human rights and social justice in Canada and around the world.

    You will examine current issues that matter in people's lives such as:

  • children's rights
  • disabilities
  • multiculturalism
  • women's rights
  • crimes against humanity
  • racism
  • You will study organizations that can be used to address injustice like the UN, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and nongovernmental organizations. You will develop skills that are highly sought-after by human rights organizations, such as:

  • designing social media strategies
  • There are also many career-relevant opportunities to enhance your honours Bachelor of Arts (BA) in HRHD:

  • Combine your BA in Human Rights and Human Diversity with Human Resources Management or Community and Social Service Management graduate certificates from Conestoga College in just four years! You take the courses to complete these graduate certificates in your third year and they are offered through Conestoga College on Laurier’s Brantford campus. The Human Resources Management program provides you with all of the required educational components to become a Certified Human Resources Professional. The Community and Social Service Management program includes a work placement opportunity that provides students with practical workplace experience.
  • Combine HRHD with a law degree from Sussex University (UK) in just six years (see below).
  • Add a specialization in International Development or in Non-profit Career Skills.
  • Add an option in International Public PolicyLeadership, or Issue Advocacy.
  • We also offer opportunities to do internships in Ghana, Africa and a summer course on international migration that takes place in Mexico City.

  • Applicant must be high school passed.

Application Process


  • Proof of English proficiency.
  • Submit TOFEL or IELTS score to Wilfrid Laurier university
  • When students have completed a full-time study in an English-language school system for a period of three years, students can request for exemption from English proficiency testing.
  • Students can submit transcripts copy as proof that they have completed their studies in an English language school system for a minimum period of three years. Documents should be in a sealed or stamped envelope from the school directly or students can submit scanned copy through the LORIS account.
  • If students are academically eligible for the course but are not meeting the English proficiency requirements needed by the university then they can apply for Laurier English and Academic Foundation program (LEAF).
  • A student must be eligible for levels 3, 4, or 5 for applying in the LEAF program. Eligibility is considered on the basis of the latest English proficiency test score. Students are qualified to pursue the program only after completion of the 5th level.
  • A student visa is required.
  • Copy of passport.
  • Unofficial or official transcripts are required by the university.
