Distinction Scholarship

The University will be awarding scholarships for 2017 starters, on the basis of academic excellence at entry, to all new students who attain ABB or above at A-level – or the equivalent. Equivalent attainment includes a BTEC National with grades of Distinction, Distinction, Merit or above and includes an equivalent pass in the Access to HE Diploma.

The following groups of students are not eligible:

1. NHS-funded students
2. Students funded by the TDA
3. Students continuing directly from one course to another (e.g. from a foundation degree or HND to the final year of an honours degree)
4. Students transferring in from another institution
5. Students taking a postgraduate programme (including PGCE)
6. Students who are on courses where the annual fees are less than £9,000

Terms and conditions

This scheme is available only to students who:

1. Are new entrants to Higher Education i.e. have not previously studied part or all of an undergraduate degree level course and are not ELQ or old fees regime.
2. Have paid the full tuition fee for the course by the due date(s) either directly or via the Student Loans Company.
3. Students in receipt of the Distinction Scholarship will not be eligible for any other University Scholarship Scheme.
4. Where a student withdraws from the University before the end of the year any scholarship entitlement may also be withdrawn (on a pro-rata basis).
