DESCRIPTION:

• Established in 2002, this award was created as part of UPEI’s efforts to support international development and international students. In the spirit of raising awareness and promoting international education, UPEI holds an annual luncheon during International Development Week to raise funds for this scholarship.
• In 2008, the UPEI international student award was renamed in honour of Dr. Vianne Timmons, former Vice President of Academic Development at UPEI and now President of University of Regina. This honour recognizes Dr. Timmons’ dedication and involvement in internationalization during her time at UPEI. Friends, family and colleagues have donated to the award in her name, and Dr. Timmons has personally pledged an annual gift until the fund reaches the level required to award it in perpetuity.
• Dr. Timmons grew up in Newfoundland and Labrador, and spent her early career in Alberta and British Columbia. She has also served as an associate professor and chair of the Education Department at St. Francis Xavier University. She holds degrees from the University of Calgary, Gonzaga University, Acadia University, and Mount Allison University.

CRITERIA:

• Awarded annually to a full time international student enrolled in their second year of study in a full time undergraduate program; who is in good academic standing, has demonstrated student engagement, and has the potential to foster international co-operation both at UPEI and in the community.
