NICTA Summer Research Scholarship

If you are enrolled in a final year undergraduate or masters by coursework at RMIT this scholarship provides financial assistance while you undertake a full-time research project for 10 weeks. The project will be jointly supervised by RMIT and NICTA researchers.

Value and duration

• The scholarships are valued up to $5000 each for the duration of 10 weeks during the summer of 2014/2015.
• The project runs for ten weeks from 10 November 2014 to 30 January 2015 (excluding the Christmas holiday period). It is possible to arrange to commence the project at a later date if agreed upon by the scholarship          holder and project supervisor.

Number of scholarships available

A minimum of three summer research scholarships are available from a choice of five projects sponsored by        the National ICT Australia (NICTA), the School of Computer Science and Information Technology and the School    of Electrical and Computer Engineering (SECE), RMIT University.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

• be enrolled in a final year undergraduate or masters by coursework program at RMIT
• have the relevant academic background stated in the project description
• be available to work full time (9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday) on your research project for the duration of the    internship
• attend the NICTA Summer Scholars Showcase (date to be confirmed on the NICTA website)
• select one of the five projects described below
• be available to attend an interview for selection if requested.

Project descriptions

• Project 1: Reinforcement learning based network resource optimisation
• Project 2: Analytics of journeys to work in the City of Melbourne using public datasets
• Project 3: Transmission-free wake-up time coordination scheme for periodic sensor data collection tree
• Project 4: Indoor localisation through smartphone magnetic fingerprinting
• Project 5: Constrained optimisation using MiniZinc with an evolutionary algorithm solver
