Lin Martin Melbourne Global Scholarship

The Lin Martin Melbourne Global Scholarship was established by the University of Melbourne and is named in honour of a much respected former Academic Registrar of the University, Ms Lin Martin. The Scholarship is funded by the Australian Government Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Programme to assist students who are experiencing social, educational or financial disadvantage with meeting the cost of study overseas. 

The University usually awards around 26 scholarships per year.

Benefits: The scholarship provides one-off payment of up to $5,000.

Eligibility

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

  • be enrolled in an undergraduate degree in a Commonwealth Supported Place at the University of Melbourne;
  • have completed at least 75 credit points in your degree;
  • have achieved a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65;
  • have received approval to study overseas on study abroad or in a University of Melbourne subject with an overseas component; and
  • be experiencing social, educational or financial disadvantage, such as
  • have a disadvantaged financial background;
  • are from a rural area or under-represented school;
  • experienced difficult circumstances;
  • have a disability or medical condition; or
  • are an indigenous Australian
  • The status of indigenous Australians must be confirmed by the Murrup Barak Melbourne Institute for Indigenous Development.

Application:

You must apply for this scholarship using the Lin Martin Melbourne Global Scholarship application form. 

  • You must provide a personal statement, which makes reference to:
  • how your situation has impacted upon your study; and
  • how the proposed travel experience may contribute to your development of knowledge beyond the traditional learning space.
  • When citing disability, you must submit a personal impact statement and a letter of support from your doctor or the University’s Disability Liaison Unit.
  • Candidates are also required to submit the following supporting evidence of their financial disadvantage:
  • a current means-tested Centrelink payment such as Austudy, ABSTUDY, Youth Allowance; or
  • a brief statement regarding your financial circumstances if you are not in receipt of a means tested Centrelink benefit
  • Only complete applications submitted by the relevant due date will be considered.

Selection :Eligible candidates are selected on the basis of demonstrated social, educational and financial disadvantage. 

Outcome: Successful candidates will receive an offer via email.
