Elizabeth Ruf Field Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2005 by the Field Family to honor an exceptional teacher, mentor and scholar.   Elizabeth Field has dedicated her life to education, promoting cultural diversity, tolerance and introspection to thousands of high school and college students. The annual awardee(s), selected by the department, are individuals planning to become physicians. Recipient(s) must be enrolled as a full-time student(s) in good academic standing with a GPA of 3.4 or greater.  Elizabeth earned a B.A. in French from Hiram College and an M.A. in French from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has taught French at the high school level at Cleveland Heights (OH), Glen Bernie (MD), and Oahu (HI) and at the college level at Bradley University (1977-1993) and Eureka College (1987-2015).

Amount

• $5,000/per for 4 years for a total of $20,000. Renewal is dependent on academic good standing and full-time enrollment in an accredited college or university.
• Two scholarships awarded per year

Criteria

• Graduating high school seniors who live in Northern Virginia, demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue a career in medicine.
• Scholarship is for full-time enrollment at an accredited college or university. The selection committee will consider academic achievement, financial need, dedication to the field of medicine, and community service.
• Applicants must complete an online application and submit transcripts from all high schools attended, letters of recommendation and copy of FAFSA or SAR.
