Advanced Community Care Association Honours Scholarship

The Advanced Community Care Association (ACCA) is offering one competitive Honours scholarship which is aimed at providing financial support to a high-achieving student to undertake a full-year Honours research program.

This scholarship valued at $7,000 is available to full-time/part-time and domestic/international students to undertake an Honours project while enrolled in the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) program at the University of South Australia. Scholarships are available for those commencing in Study Period 2, 2016..

Please note that the scholarship application process is separate to the application for admission to the Honours program.

Aims

The aims of any funded Honours research project will be consistent with the guidelines provided by the Advanced Community Care Assoication (ACCA), which was formed to promote and implement safe alternatives to unnecessary hospitalisation. Working with non-government organisations providing aged care and other community services, the ACCA wished to achieve the following objects: 

  • coordinate community services to provide safe alternatives to unnecessary hospitalisation;
  • improve the health outcomes of people through developing and implementing health delivery models whereby community organisations are capable of providing an extended range of care services in the home or community setting; and
  • to do all such things as are conducive to the attainment of the above objects.

The focus of any projects can include, but should not be restricted to, research that is more applied than theoretical, aiming to further understandings of the practical, clinical, organisational and financial implications of home-based alternatives to hospital care. This could include (among others) such diverse fields as:

  • clinical issues in home care;
  • palliative care;
  • community management of mental illness;
  • health system change management;
  • relevant ICT and informatics; and
  • the economics of the increasing shift to home care.

Application Criteria

  • Citizenship: applications will be accepted from Australian citizens and permanent residents, or international students. (English language requirements will apply for international applicants: an overall minimum IELTS score of 6.5 with subscores of no less than 6.0 in Reading and Writing);
  • Applicants must have completed an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline;
  • Applicants must be undertaking a full-year Honours Program in the Division of Health Sciences, UniSA eligible program
    • Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) (IHHS);
  • Mode of study: applicants may be full-time or part-time students; part-time students must complete their course in no more than two (2) calendar years;
  • Supervision: applications must have as their principal project supervisor a staff member of the Division of Health Sciences who is a member of the University's Research Register, and who is aligned with an existing or developing research concentration.
  • Project: the project must be aligned to the values of the Advanced Community Care Association and aimed at the further understanding of the practical, clinical, organisational and financial implications of home-based alternatives to hospital care.

Please ensure academic transcripts (for non UniSA students) and a CV are attached and relevant signatures are obtained prior to submission of the original hard copy to the Division of Health Sciences research office.
