The Indian Railways is divided into different Zones which have technical and non-technical departments and operates 365 days in the year for providing valuable service to the country. For Non Technical Cadre:

Age Limitation

18 years – 30 years


Bachelor degree / typing skills in English/Hindi on Computer as well as Typewriter

Relaxation in age up to 5 years is provided to the SC/ ST candidates and 3 years to OBC candidates by the government.

Candidates who are willing to apply must match with the above given eligibility criteria.

For Technical Cadre:

Age Limitation

18 years – 33 years


10+2 with Physics and Maths and ITI/ Diploma or degree in Computer Networking / Data Networking / Electrician.

Relaxation in age up to 5 years is provided to the SC/ ST candidates and 3 years to OBC candidates by the government.

Only those candidates are eligible to apply who matches with the above mentioned eligibility criteria.


Exam Pattern:

Basically, Railway Exam is classified into two sections:

Technical Cadre: Railway offers jobs in technical departments which include civil, technical and mechanical engineering, signalling and telecom and many others concerning with same disciplines.

Non Technical cadre: Railway Recruitment Board organizes Civil Services Exam for the hiring of non-technical posts in Grade C services like Clerk, Assistant Station Master, Ticket Collector etc.

Railway Recruitment Posts: Gazetted (Group ‘A’ and ‘B’) and Non-Gazetted (Group ‘C’ and ‘D’) in 19 RRBs:-

Group ‘A’ Posts: Group A posts is carried out by UPSC – appointed through Civil Service Exam, Engineering Service Exam, and Combined Medical Service Examination.

Group ‘B’ Posts:  These posts are not open to directly. The Group B posts link Section Officers Grade – upgraded posts from Group ‘C’ railway employees on deputation basis.

Group ‘C’ Posts: Technical and Non-Technical cadre posts like Clerk, Station Master, Ticket Collector, Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, Engineering posts (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Signal & Telecommunication) etc.

Group ‘D’ Posts: These posts in various disciplines include Trackman, Helper, Assistant Points Man, Safaiwala / Safaiwali, Gunman, Peon etc.

Recruitment against Quota: Sports Quota, Scouts & Guides Quota and Cultural Quota.
