Government launches new Central Sector Scheme Nai Manzil

Union Minister for Minority Affairs Dr. Najma Heptulla introduced a new Central Sector Scheme Nai Manzil for empowering minorities. The scheme was introduced  to make innovative interventions in the field of education and skill development for improving the welfare of minorities. The Scheme: Aim to address educational and livelihood needs of minority communities in general and Muslims in particular, which lags behind in terms of educational attainments than the other minority communities. Aims to provide educational intervention by giving the bridge courses to the trainees and getting them Certificates for Class 12th and 10th from distance medium educational system. Aims to provide trade basis skill training in four courses at the same time of formal education, in field of a) Manufacturing b) Engineering c) Services d) Soft skills. It intends to cover people in between 17 to 35 age group from all minority communities as well as Madrasa students. This scheme will provide avenues for continuing higher education and also open up employment opportunities in the organized sector.

Alan Edwards Memorial Scholarship

Alan Edwards AM MBE (1925–2003) was an accomplished actor and the founding Artistic Director of the Queensland Theatre Company in Brisbane. Alan was considered a major contributor to the artistic life of Queensland and was awarded a Member of the British Empire and Member of the Order of Australia for his services to theatre. He was also made an honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Southern Queensland. The Alan Edwards Scholarship was established in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the arts community and to theatre at USQ. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of merit, annually to a third-year USQ Toowoomba student pursuing a major in Theatre.

Eligibility

To be eligible applicants must:

  • be an Australian Citizen or have permanent resident status 
  • continue their studies in a Bachelor of Creative Arts majoring in Theatre in Semester 1 2018
  • be entering the third year of the degree 
  • be enrolled at Toowoomba campus 
  • be enrolled in a minimum of 3 study units in each of Semester 1 and Semester 2 
  • be studying on-campus.

Selection criteria

Applicants must:

  • submit a personal statement indicating how the scholarship will assist them to achieve their future career plans
  • provide evidence of academic achievement (transcript of results)
  • have a current Grade Point Average of at least 5.0
