Auckland University of Technology was formed in 2000 when the technical college was converted into the University. The lineage of the college goes back to 1895. The five departments of AUT are Te Ara Poutama (related to indigenous Maori people), Health and Environment science, Design and Creative Technology, Business and Law, Culture and Society.
