  • Bachelor Human-computer

  • The more computers have an impact on our lives, the more important it is to design human-computer interaction in such a way that people perceive it to be simple and natural. This results in a new research and professional field that brings together perspectives from computer science and psychology, but also from pedagogy, linguistics and design. Based on studies of human communication and interaction with and through computers, IT systems are developed whose design is based on the requirements of the users.

The human-computer interaction bachelor's degree is strongly interdisciplinary. It combines theoretical foundations from computer science and psychology with application-oriented topics from the areas of software development and multimedia systems. Areas of psychology that are important for the design and evaluation of user interfaces are included in the training from the beginning of the course.

  • The bachelor's degree offers a first professional qualification. Graduates can use their qualifications in a professional activity in industry, administration or self-employment (e.g. in consulting, in software and system development, and especially in the media sector, e.g. in internet agencies). Further academic qualification is also possible by taking up a master’s degree. Following the bachelor's degree in human-computer interaction, a master's degree in computer science, intelligent adaptive systems or IT management and consulting can be completed at the University of Hamburg.

  • The bachelor's degree lasts six semesters and is divided into two pillars: the IT area and the psychology area. There are compulsory and elective modules in both areas. Basic course contents are:

    • Basics of human-computer interaction
    • · Development of IT systems

    • Mathematical & theoretical basics of computer science
    • Basics of psychology (general psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, social psychology)
    • Interactive multimedia systems
    • Interaction design and usability
    • Other IT topics to choose from
    • Specialized internships, projects and a bachelor thesis

There are also internships and projects in the field of human-computer interaction.

In the field of psychology, you can choose between the three sub-areas of developmental psychology, biopsychology or differential psychology.

In the free elective area, events from other university subjects can be attended.
