  • Diploma in Liberal Arts

  • FEATURES:

  • The Liberal Arts diploma offers a flexible range of course choice options
  • The Liberal Arts diploma can act as an intermediate qualification on the way to earn a Bachelor of Arts
  • Program eligible for financial aid
  • A Liberal Arts diploma is an excellent choice if you want to explore broadly before you choose a discipline in the arts.

The Liberal Arts diploma program requires a minimum of 60 university-level credits. It is designed to provide you with a breadth of intellectual and academic experience while recognizing the importance of concentrated study in a specific field or discipline.

The diploma may serve as a stepping stone if you plan to transfer or eventually want to continue your studies to earn a Bachelor of Arts at UFV. If you’re planning to pursue the BA at UFV, you can simultaneously complete the Liberal Arts diploma and satisfy the general requirements for the bachelor’s degree as well as the lower-level requirements for a major, extended minor(s), or minor. This could save you time and money while earning your degree.

In addition to foundational courses in writing, communication, critical thinking, quantitative literacy, and scientific literacy, you can take classes from any of the following disciplines with the goal of finding a focus for your studies:

  • Anthropology
  • Applied Ethical and Political Philosophy
  • Applied Statistics
  • Art History

  • CAREER EXPECTATIONS

  • A diploma in Liberal Arts appeals to employers who need well-rounded candidates with good analytical and communications skills – starting in customer service, administration, or sales.

Mastering special skills such as public relations, sales, social media marketing, web design, or computer programming can open up additional employment opportunities.

Options also exist to pursue further studies and launch a career in arts, education, counselling, law, politics, or finance.

  • UPGRADING OPTIONS

  • Apply to Qualifying Studies if you do not currently meet the BA entry requirements in order to upgrade your qualifications for future admissions.

To meet the requirements  of this program, you will need to meet the prerequisites for Academic Writing (ENGL 105) or Communicating Professionally to Academic and Workplace Audiences (CMNS 125).

    Upgrading English courses

There are several options to upgrade your English, including UFV CMNS 099 or ENGL 099 with a grade of C or better, UFV ENGL 081 or 091 with a grade of C+ or better, or UFV ESL WG84 with a grade of C+ or better. Please speak with a Qualifying Studies or International advisor to learn more about additional options.

Entry Requirement

  • Applicant must have a hgh school passed.

Application Process

  • A UFV Liberal Arts diploma (LAD) will equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to be a reflective, articulate, and informed citizen within the Fraser Valley and beyond. A LAD offers foundational skills, learning, and engagement in communication, critical thinking, quantitative literacy, and scientific literacy, as well as the opportunity to begin concentrated study in a specific field or discipline. The diploma may serve as an educational goal or as an intermediate qualification for those who plan to transfer or who plan to ladder into a degree program at UFV. Students successfully completing a LAD will have met most of the lower-level requirements for the Bachelor of Arts as well as courses which can be used towards minors, extended minors, and/or majors.
