  • The Diploma of General Studies can serve as your interdisciplinary introduction to university studies. The two-year (60-credit) program allows you to customize your program of study by choosing from a wide range of courses to select those that match your interests and goals.

    If you plan to continue on to complete a degree (BIS, BA, BBA, BCIS, BSc, etc.) once you have completed your diploma, it is highly recommended that you complete the first- and second-year requirements of the degree program. You can also use up to 45 transfer credits within the diploma.

    If you are considering using the Diploma of General Studies in order to ladder into the Bachelor of Integrated Studiesmake an appointment with an advisor to develop your learning goals and devise a unique plan for your studies.

  • The UFV General Studies program is a stepping stone into many different careers, depending on the way in which you customize your program of study.

    Common fields that many General Studies graduates pursue include: elementary education, government and administrative support, community programming and outreach, aviation, and business.

  • Applicant must have a High School Passed
  • Applicants must have  All India Senior School Certificate awarded by CBSE/Indian School Certificate (awarded by CICSE)/Higher Secondary School Certificate/Senior Secondary (12th Class) Examination 
  • Applicant must be high school passed.

Application Process


  • The General Studies diploma is UFV’s most flexible two-year program, allowing students to choose courses that are most relevant to their personal and professional goals. General Studies diploma students will demonstrate foundational skills in communication, numeracy, and science or digital literacy.

    The General Studies diploma is flexible enough to allow students to:

  • Explore courses from a variety of areas of study;
  • Use transfer, applied, and professional program credits;
  • Tailor a program of study to specific needs of their workplace; and
  • Complete entrance and lower-level requirements for degree-level study and professional programs.
  • Students successfully completing a General Studies diploma will have met several of the competency requirements for the Bachelor of Integrated Studies (BIS). Diploma students interested in continuing in the BIS with the intention of developing a theme specialization can work with an Advisor while in the diploma program to ensure that necessary prerequisites have been completed.

  • All applicants must meet the Degree/diploma level English language proficiency requirement. For details on how this requirement may be met, see the English language proficiency requirement section of the calendar.

    Option 1: Secondary school (for students with secondary school graduation only)

    B.C. applicants

  • B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • A minimum grade of C+ in English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 (see Note) and a minimum of a C+ in one additional Approved Grade 12 course.
