Business Management 

  • This program is for those who wish to experience a successful career within business management. Upon completion, you can enter a variety of areas such as: marketing, human resources, finance or management.

Program Outcomes

  • Recognise and understand the processes and methods of a successful organisation, including dealing with financial issues, the vital principles of marketing and how to use these to ensure maximum impact
  • Learn how to make an impact in your workplace and understand the relationship between organisations and local, national and international environments
  • Incorporate problem solving and cognitive skills to enhance your communications
  • The modules include:
  • 1. Fundamentals of Business Communications
  • This module will help you develop and enhance your written, verbal, interpersonal communication skills, time management skills and presentation techniques, to ensure success in any business environment. You will also learn to use Microsoft Office to help you operate more efficiently and be more productive.
  • 2. Principles of Accounting
  • Emphasis will be placed on analyzing and recording business transactions using the rules of double-entry bookkeeping. In addition, you will learn to adjust journal entries and everyday transactions for both service and retail businesses and learn how these are recorded, coupled with the preparation of basic financial statements.
  • This course also provides a practical introduction to computerized accounting. You will learn to set up a computerized accounting environment and to convert a manual accounting system to a computerized one. You will work with a variety of business simulations, providing hands-on experience with all aspects of work transactions in the general, payables, and receivable ledgers.
  • 3. Business Environment
  • The aim of this unit is to provide an understanding of different organizations, the influence of stakeholders and the relationship between businesses and the local, national and global environments. In this unit you will consider how different market structures shape the pricing and output decisions of businesses, as well as other aspects of their behavior.
  • 4. Managing Financial Resources
  • This unit aims to give you an understanding of where and how to access sources of finance for a business and the skills necessary to use financial information for decision-making.
  • 5. Organizational Behaviour
  • The aim of this unit is to give an understanding of individual and group behaviour in organisations and to examine current theories and their application in managing behaviour in the workplace. This module includes content of ‘Manage the Salesforce Way’ which is developed by Salesforce, the market leader of Customer Relationship Management software solutions and enterprise cloud computing in the world. You will study the model, strategies and tools for being a great manager in organizations such as Salesforce which was ranked first in Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2018.
  • 6. Marketing Principles
  • This unit aims to provide an understanding of skills relating to the fundamental concepts and principles that underpin the marketing process.
  • 7. Business Decision Making
  • The aim of this unit is to develop techniques for data gathering and storage and an understanding of the tools available to create and present useful information in order to make business decisions.
  • 8. Research Project
  • The purpose of the unit is to develop independent enquiry and critical analysis skills by undertaking a sustained research investigation of direct relevance to your program and your professional development.
  • 9. Financial Accounting and Reporting
  • In this unit, you will prepare financial statements for different types of business in compliance with relevant legal and regulatory provisions and the basic principles of group accounts. You will also use tools for the interpretation of financial statements.
  • 10. Personal and Professional Development
  • This unit aims to help you become an effective, confident and self-directed employee through managing your personal and professional skills to achieve your personal and career goals.
  • 11. Human Resources Management
  • The aim of this unit is to develop the skills and knowledge needed for working with and leading others, through understanding the importance of recruiting the right people for the job.
  • 12. Project Management
  • The aim of this unit is to provide an understanding of different organizations, the influence of stakeholders and the relationship between businesses and the local, national and global environments. In this unit you will consider how different market structures shape the pricing and output decisions of businesses, as well as other aspects of their behavior.
  • 13. Information Management
  • The aim of this unit is to show how communications, knowledge and information can be improved within an organization by making better use of IT systems.
  • 14. Operations Management in Business
  • This unit will provide you with an understanding of the role and importance of operations management (OM) in the efficient and effective production of goods and services.
  • 15. Business Work Experience
  • This unit will help you develop the skills and knowledge of work practices in industry through conducting an interview/research with a business about a work-based issue and then developing and producing a management report that examines this issue.
  • 16. Business Ethics
  • The aim of this unit is to introduce the concept of business ethics and to examine its relevance when considering business objectives and responsibilities.

Entry Requirement


  • Applicant must be high school passed.

Application Process


  • Have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent or be at least 18 years of age and pass the Wonderlic test.
  • For non-native English speakers:
  • Successful completion of TSoM EAP Level 4 or
  • Have the required IELTS 5.5 score or equivalent or
  • Pass the TSoM English Assessment (Written onsite or online with exam proctor)

    Computer Use Expectation

    In order to successfully progress through your studies at Toronto School of Management (TSoM), it is recommended that you have access to a personal computer or laptop. TSoM offers access to computer labs on campus, but availability cannot be guaranteed and some program software may not be available on all open access computers.
