  • What you'll learn

  • Current theories, models and interventions used in social service agencies to build healthy, positive relationships and connections within communities.
  • Value of self-reflection and how to engage in critical self-awareness to increase your ability to help others and respect the uniqueness and dignity of all people.
  • Develop core values of helping others such as the right to choose, the right to equality, justice and access to services.
  • Acquire helping skills such as interviewing, assessing the needs of others, working effectively with groups and assisting communities to change.
  • Understand how to document and work within legal, ethical and professional frameworks.
  • Program Length

    2 academic years (period of 8 months)

    Fast Track allows students to complete a two-year Diploma program (non co-op) in 16 months. Students will start in January and be in school for four continuous semesters: Winter, Spring/Summer, Fall and Winter. Students will not be off during the summer.

    Field placements

  • Field placements may occur at locations that are not accessible by public transit. As such, students shall be expected to either have access to a car or the ability to supply their own transportation when attending field placement activity. Mohawk shall not be responsible for providing students with transportation to field placements within or outside the Hamilton region
  • Registered students who have been convicted of an offence under the criminal code for which they have not been pardoned may be denied the opportunity to enter placement

    Mohawk offers a diverse range of programs to further your studies**: Students that graduate from any of the following Mohawk College Certificate, Ontario College Certificate, and Ontario College Diploma programs are eligible to enroll into the Social Service Worker program:

  • Development Service Worker (Apprenticeship)
  • General Arts and Science Certificate (College Transfer)
  • Human Services Foundation 
  • Pre-Justice 
  • General Arts and Science Diploma (University Transfer)
  • Graduates from the Social Service Worker program are eligible to enroll into the following Ontario College Diploma Intensive, Ontario College Advanced Diploma, and Ontario College Graduate Certificate programs: 

  • Early Childhood Education (Intensive) 
  • Educational Support (Intensive)
  • Recreation Therapy (Intensive)
  • Child and Youth Care
  • Autism and Behavioural Science 
  • Brain Disorders Management 
  • Community and Social Services Management

  • Earn a degree:
    • Athabasca University - Bachelor of Professional Arts in Human Services
    • Davenport University - Bachelor of Science, Health Services Administration
    • Griffith University - Bachelor of Human Services
