  • Master of Civil Engineering

  • This advanced training for engineers will prepare you for complex technical challenges through the acquisition of specialized knowledge in civil engineering.
  • The civil engineer must sometimes specialize before tackling technical challenges of high complexity. The first step in this direction is through a master's program through which you will acquire specialist knowledge and advanced training. You will have the chance to study in a stimulating research environment comprising several laboratories in hydraulics, environment, geotechnics and structure and concrete.

    This program is designed in a flexible way, in order to leave a lot of latitude to the student in the choice of the most suitable courses and activities for the realization of their advanced training project.

Entry Requirement


  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), in a related field or an equivalent degree
  • Applicant must have a bachelor degree.

Application Process


  • The candidate holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, in a related field or a diploma deemed equivalent.

    Average

    The candidate has achieved a program pathway or graduation average of 2.67 or greater out of 4.33, or the equivalent.

    Preparatory schooling

    In all cases, the program director reserves the right to admit the candidate to preparatory schooling.

    Language requirements

    Knowledge of French

    The non-French-speaking candidate (who did not do his primary and secondary studies in French) must, to be eligible, prove, when submitting the application for admission, a minimum level of knowledge of the language. French by success:

  • of the  Test of knowledge of French for all audiences  with:
    • a result equal to or greater than 361 out of 699 in the compulsory tests (TCF-TP)
    • AND a result equal to or greater than 8 out of 20 on the written expression test (TCF-TP / EÉ)
  • OR the course  FLE-3221 Oral and Written Language (intermediate-advanced) (or a course at Laval University deemed equivalent) with a grade equal to or greater than C
  • Candidates who meet one of the following conditions do not have to provide proof of their level of French:

  • completed his primary and secondary studies in French;
  • obtained the college diploma in French in Quebec (DEC) and passed the uniform French test;
  • has obtained a university degree from a French-language institution.
  • Knowledge of English

    Although knowledge of English is not an admission requirement, successful completion of this study program is linked to the student's ability to read and understand texts in English. Students who do not have sufficient command of this language may experience difficulties in their studies. The student must ensure that they have a good understanding of English and, if necessary, take measures to develop their language skills during the course (for example, at the École des Langues de l'Université Laval ) . In the event of significant deficiencies, the program management can impose corrective measures.

    Test Director

    Before applying for admission, the candidate must contact one of the professors in the field of research in which he wishes to specialize. Refer to the professors' sheets available on the website of the Department of Civil Engineering and Water Engineering. The program director can only admit a candidate if a professor has agreed to act as test director.

  • Selection

    Meeting the admission requirements does not automatically result in the admission of a candidate. Each request is studied by the program director who takes into account, in its assessment, the candidate's previous preparation, his academic record and all of his file, as well as the resources of the department.

    Knowledge of French
