This program will familiarize you with the main theoretical perspectives of sociology and its approaches to the investigation and analysis of social phenomena. You will be trained in both qualitative and quantitative research methods (field observation, interviews, survey, document analysis, social statistics, etc.). The various themes under study (culture, environment, development, health, gender, social control, social inequalities, ethnicity, imagination, social movements, deviance and social normativity, organizations, politics, childhood and youth, relationships with the body and the sexuality, work, violence, etc.) will improve your knowledge in the field in addition to developing your understanding of the world and your critical thinking.
You will be able to experience a complete initiation into research work and gain a first professional experience in the Research Laboratory course . This optional 12-credit activity, given 1 year out of 2, spans 2 course sessions (fall and winter). It consists of carrying out a professional study as a team in response to the request of a sponsoring organization. The study results in the preparation of a research report which is the subject of a short public presentation and which can be published online by the Department.

Cultures and Lifestyles
This concentration aims to acquire knowledge on different dimensions of culture and lifestyles, approached from a sociological perspective, in particular everyday life, diversity and social inequalities, consumption, fashion and lifestyles, identities and affiliations, media, cultural and aesthetic productions as well as the challenges of migration.
Spaces and societies
You will acquire knowledge on questions and phenomena at the crossroads of sociology and geography, but also of anthropology, urban studies and planning.
Theoretical foundations
This concentration aims to acquire knowledge about intellectual history and the most important theories in the social sciences - especially those that cross disciplinary boundaries - and their philosophical foundations.
Populations and social trends
You will study populations and social trends using various theories, models and approaches that rely on statistical analyzes as well as comparisons of observations.
Work and organization
You will analyze the incessant transformations of the world of work and organizations in order to intervene better.
