  • Bachelor of Business Administration
  • The General Business Major is designed to provide students with pathways to further their post-secondary studies at various universities. Graduates gain a broad understanding of a multitude of business concepts.

This major is designed to provide students with pathways to further post-secondary studies at various universities in Alberta. Please consult with an Academic Advisor if you are planning to transfer to one of Bow Valley College's many post-secondary partners.   

    Time commitment

    This is a two-year (four term) diploma program. A full course load is five courses per term. Students may elect to take fewer courses each term; however, it will take longer to complete the program.

    Learning options

    Core courses are available both in class and online. Students will choose nine courses from any of the Business Administration majors to complete the major specific courses.

     
    Co-operative Education Program (Optional)

    Co-operative education won't be available for new students starting in Fall 2021 or later. We are working on new and innovative Work Integrated Learning options for future students!

    Co-op provides eligible Business Administration Diploma students with an opportunity to gain work-related experience for one term through an assisted job search. Co-op offers students relevant experience to boost employment opportunities, develop professional skills and experience, network with employers, and earn money.  

    The Co-op Work Term process aligns with the competitive nature of job search. To be accepted into the Co-op Program, applicants must meet all eligibility criteria and follow the application process. Candidates are responsible for demonstrating a high level of professional and program expectations. Not all students accepted into the Co-op Program are guaranteed a Co-op Work Term position.

    Today's companies seek employees with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The evolution of the modern workplace, increasing competition, and rising consumer demands has forced employers to seek out motivated candidates with critical thinking and decision-making capabilities who also possess leadership potential. 

  • Can I receive credit if I have been employed or have taken courses in the business administration field?

    If you have prior work experience or have taken courses comparable to those required under this program at another institution, you may be eligible for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) or transfer credit.

    All requests must be submitted prior to the start of the program.  

  • What type of work can I do with the Business Administration Diploma - General Business Major?

    Business diploma graduates with a major in general studies have a broad understanding of a multitude of business concepts and applications. Graduates typically find employment as management trainees, general managers, assistants, managers, sales representatives, sales managers or personnel officers in retail, financial services, insurance, human resources, not-for-profit, sales, and marketing industries.

  • Bow Valley College is a center of progressive learning in Alberta since its establishment, 1965. The Bow Valley College is an affiliate with the Alberta Rural Development Network and Colleges and Institutes Canada. Moreover, faculty at Bow Valley College is highly-experienced in terms of teaching and industrial knowledge. Further, the college arranges visits of industry experts and eminent scholars to deliver special lectures.

    The college offers year-round career programs which include business, creative technologies, community studies, health and wellness, careers in immigrant advancement, intercultural studies, continuing education, academic upgrading, English language learning, dual credit program, and open studies. Moreover, the college offers specialized services and career services that help newcomers to Canada.

  • Bow Valley College opens admissions in Fall, Spring, and Summer.
  • Programs start on September 2020 and January 2021. Certificate programs start in May.
  • Candidates can apply online, the application deadline for Fall 2020 (September 1, 2020 - December 18, 2020) is July 31.
  • The college has stopped accepting applications for Spring/Summer Term 2020 (May 04, 2020 - August 21, 2020).
  • Due to the COVID19 pandemic, application open dates for 2021 have been delayed
  • May 2021 Spring: Application open May 15.
  • 2020 September 2020 Fall: Application deadline is June 29.
  • 2020 January 2021 Winter: Application deadline is October 30.
  • 2020 September 2021 Fall: Application open August 4, 2020.
  • Acceptance rate for Bow Valley College is 37%. College receives application from many countries and the admission can get very competitive.

  • Students from all over the world seek admission at Bow Valley College. Students from 148 countries with 98 different languages have been studied in the college. Before starting the application, the applicant should check whether seats are available for the program for which they are applying. The students are required to apply 12 months before the start dates of the studies.
