AICTE announces CMAT would be once in a year
according to a recent declaration from the all india council for technical education (aicte) the common management admission test (cmat) will be scheduled once in a year only and during the month of january. earlier, aspirants were given two chances to appear for cmat - first in september and then again in february. the better of the two scores could be used for admissions.
cmat is an all-india entrance examination conducted by the aicte to help different business schools (b-schools) and management institutes in india to grant admissions to candidates into various management programs that are approved by the aicte. graduates in any field or final-year students of graduate courses can apply for cmat.
according to aicte representatives, other major entrance tests for admission into management courses are held once in a year. hence, the council has taken the policy decision to conduct cmat once in a year for b-school admissions. the notification for the cmat examination which will be held in january, 2016 will be issued shortly. the council will strive to ensure that there is high outreach and more applicants register for the examination. more than 50,000 applicants usually apply for the cmat conducted in september.
as per educational experts, scheduling just one cmat in a year will not have any major influence on admissions. however, students will be able to appear for just one test and hence submit those scores only.
the cmat 2015-16 second test was held from thursday, february 19 to sunday, february 22, 2015. the results were declared on wednesday, march 25, 2015. cmat september 2015-16 first test was held from thursday, september 25 to monday, september 29, 2014. around 53,000 applicants appeared for the test and the results were declared on thursday, october 30, 2014.
as a result of the aicte decision, the test scheduled to be held in september 2015 is cancelled. as per registration data for the cmat examination, more candidates select to appear for the cmat february examination. this is because the results of almost all other entrance tests are declared by then, leaving cmat as the only option for admission into best b-schools.
