XAT 2017 Syllabus

XAT is a pen and paper-based exam. The test is famous for its high difficulty level. XAT syllabus consists of Essay Writing, General Awareness, Decision Making, Data Interpretation, English, Logical Reasoningand Quantitative Aptitude. Here are some syllabus details, based from last year’s XAT paper pattern.

Quantitative Aptitude (QA) & Data Interpretation (DI)

In XAT, there are three sets of DI questions. Quant has similar sections like CAT exam. Here are some of the quant topics that are covered in the exam:

  • Mensuration and Geometry
  • Surds and Indices
  • Linear and Quadratics Equations
  • Alligations and Mixtures
  • Averages and Partnerships
  • Critical Path
  • Tables and Caselets
  • Time, Speed and Distance
  • Time and Work
  • Profit and Loss

English Language & Logical Reasoning

  • Verbal Logic
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Para Completion and inference
  • Grammar questions
  • Fill in the blanks (vocab and grammar based)

Decision Making

  • Logical reasoning
  • Decision making

General Knowledge

  • Static GK
  • Important happenings around the World
  • Current affairs
  • Famous Personalities
  • Government and Politics
  • BusinessAwards and winners

XAT GK section is dominated by current affairs and news, with around seven questions related to international on-going issues like Syrian crisis, Crimean referendum, Boko Haram.

Essay

Essay section has no fixed subject. Essay topic could vary from general affairs to abstract subject. The idea to present your chain of thoughts on the subject in an order.
