XAT is an annual entrance exam held by the Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur to select the most appropriate students for its management courses. Every year, a huge number of management candidates take the XAT to get admission into XLRI or other good organisations where XAT scores are considered. It has become the most popular entrance exam for management candidates after CAT and MAT.

XAT 2017 will be held on 8thJanuary 2017 as the online application procedure for XAT has started from 8th August 2016. XLRI conducts test for on behalf of the XAMI. For over 60 years XLRI is conducting test at all India level to choose the most proper applicant for management education. XAT, one of the oldest competitive examinations in the nation, has constantly kept pace with the cutting edge testing methodology. XAT's multidimensional testing system, is designed to meaningfullyasses the skills of applicants for future business achievement. The test score is being utilized by more than 100 organizations for the admission.

Eligibility

The applicants interested in appearing for XAT this year must guarantee the fulfilment of the eligibility criteria as laid down by XLRI. Here we are providing the officially prescribed XAT Eligibility 2017:–

  • The applicant should have a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a state or central recognized establishment or University. There is no bar on the minimum aggregate percentile a candidate is required to have in the graduation program.
  • No age restriction.
  • The candidates pursuing the final year of their graduation can also apply for the test, provided they will be able to submit the proof of passing their final exams to XLRI by June 2017.
  • Indian national candidates are eligible to apply for this exam.
  • NRI and foreign candidates (except Dubai and Kathmandu) can also apply through GMAT score.
  • Candidates who have secured below 50% marks in the graduation can apply for this exam.

Exam Pattern

  • The exam pattern of XAT undergoes some change or other every year. The number of questions in Paper 1 varies every year. Paper 2 is a mix of both objective as well as subjective questions, General Knowledge and Essay Writing.
  • According to the official release of the 'Expected XAT paper', the test will have 2 Parts: Part I and Part II.
  • Part I will have 3 sections A, B and C with 24, 21 and 27 questions respectively, i.e. a total of 72 questions.
  • However, the sequence of the test sections has not been defined by the officials. The section wise allotment of the questions has not been provided.
  • After Part 1 there was Part II with 25 GK questions and an essay. This section was of 35 minutes with no negative marking.
  • The time for completing the three sections and general knowledge was 210 minutes.
  • The questions were of objective, multiple-choice type having 5 choices.
  • Test takers had to fill up the circle corresponding to the correct option fully with blue or black ball point pen.

Marking Scheme of XAT 2017

  • Each question carried 1 mark and for each wrong answer, there is negative marking of 0.25 marks.
  • A candidate can leave out 12 questions unattempted, beyond which there will be negative marking of 0.05 marks.
  • On allowing 12 questions unattempted, the official notification says, “Leaving a question unattempted may result in a deduction of 0.05 mark. However, this deduction will not apply for a maximum of 12 unattempted questions. The negative marks for unattempted questions shall be deducted proportionately across the 3 sections."
